We are a small guest house within the National Park at Brandlingill which is a tiny hamlet, 3 miles from the market town of Cockermouth, close to the lakes of Loweswater, Crummock Water and Bassenthwaite and 12 miles from the popular tourist centre of Keswick. After living in London for nearly 50 years we decided to 'fulfill our dreams' and move to the beautiful Lake District where we started our venture on March 1st 1997. We enjoy meeting people and have been overwhelmed at how nice our guests have been. (Judging from comments in our visitors book, they quite like us too!).

Toddell Cottage is a listed building of over
300 years old and was originally a Cumbrian longhouse. Over the last 20
years it has been converted to modern standards, and since we moved in,
further work has taken place in the bedrooms to include en-suite
facilities, without upsetting the balance of the delightfully beamed
rooms.
Since opening we have been inspected by the English Tourist Board and awarded '2 Crowns - Highly Commended' and the AA - 4 Diamonds. We appear in 'Bed & Breakfast Nationwide', 'Staying Off The Beaten Track' and 'Special Places to Stay' books who have all visited us and complimented our facilities and enthusiasm. |

Our large garden is bounded by a small beck which has recently been designated as a 'sight of special scientific interest' and is a very peaceful spot to wander lonely as a cloud! Janet is also a qualified Aromatherapist , so if any of the wonderful local walks are just a bit too much, professional help is at hand! We can offer you a warm welcome and a very comfortable stay.

We are also included in the 'Which? Hotel Guide' for 1999, 2000 and 2001. This is a real boost for us as entry is by guests recommendation only. We pride ourselves on our ability to make people feel at home. The breakfast table overflows with different ideas and has been nominated for an excellence award by the AA, and dinner is a 3 course treat with vegetarian alternatives and can be enjoyed with wine from our specially selected list as we are now fully licensed.
